As Chairperson of the Muckleshoot Tribal Council I extend to you a warm welcome and invite you to look through the information on this site to learn more about our people, our culture and our community.

The past decade has been a time of great progress for the Muckleshoot Tribe. It was almost 14 years ago that the Tribal Council established a plan to guide the tribe's economic rebirth made possible by tribal gaming. That plan has served as our roadmap as we developed and implemented programs and plans to secure the tribe's immediate future and lay the groundwork for a bright and prosperous future.

The Muckleshoot Tribe takes great pride in the important role we play in this state and region. The Tribe has grown to become one of the largest employers in southeast King County and the economic impact of our various business ventures is significant. Through our Charity Fund and Community Impact contributions the Tribe provides almost $3 million annually to local governments, schools, churches and non-profit organizations. The Tribe's role as co-manager of the natural resources in this area benefits the entire region.

Welcome to the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe Website!

The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe is a federally recognized Indian tribe whose membership is composed of descendants of the Duwamish and Upper Puyallup people who inhabited Central Puget Sound for thousands of years before non-Indian settlement. The Tribe’s name is derived from the native name for the prairie on which the Muckleshoot Reservation was established. Following the Reservation’s establishment in 1857, the Tribe and its members came to be known as Muckleshoot, rather than by the historic tribal names of their Duwamish and Upper Puyallup ancestors. Today, the United States recognizes the Muckleshoot Tribe as a tribal successor to the Duwamish and Upper Puyallup bands from which the Tribe’s membership descends.
